Pocono Mountain Vacation
Home
Of course those of us who live in the
Pocono Mountains feel it is the perfect place to raise a
family, earn a living and enjoy all that nature has to offer.
But the fact of the matter is that many of us became
transplants to the area by first buying a Pocono Mountain
Vacation home.
Personally speaking, I live in a beautiful mountain
community of around 450 homes in Tamiment, PA. This is a small
private community just north of the famous Bushkill Falls in
Bushkill, PA. Although we are just minutes from the Delaware
Water Gap, our surroundings are unlike anything you'll find in
NJ. Of this number of homes, I'd estimate at least a
third or more are vacation homes. Having moved to the Pocono's
from New Jersey puts me in a class with the majority of
residents in the eastern side of the Pocono Mountains.
Although originally from the Jersey Shore, the biggest thing
my wife and I had to acclimate to was the "quiet" of the
community and the natural beauty of the surrounding area.
It was a nice transition to make, to say the least.
Since my business has called for me to maintain Pocono
Mountain Vacation and year around homes for many years, I
feel I'm uniquely qualified to discuss what a person should
look for and reasonably expect in purchasing a Pocono Mountain
Vacation home. Not being a real estate
agent, I can be brutally frank in discussing certain
types of homes to avoid and what to reasonably expect for
your future vacation home. Agents will always be
concerned about offending a potential client or losing a
possible sale, but I do not have that concern. I've
listened to my customers over the years and their comments
and opinions have brought me to certain conclusions about
buying a home in the Pocono Mountains.
It seems the first subject to discuss should be the location
of your vacation home. When my wife and I decided to move
to the area our determination was to find an area and home that
reflected the mountain beauty and life style. We felt if
we wanted to live in a typical NY or NJ style neighborhood, we
might as well have stayed there. So my first piece of
advice to seriously consider is finding the
best location for your home. This will include not
only the general area you like but also if you want to live in
one of the many private communities located in the Pocono
Mountains.
After deciding upon a location you will have to decide if
you want to have a new home built which means you will be
shopping for property and a good builder or if you will
buy an existing home. This can be the most expensive
part of your decision making process.
If you are already decided upon the location and are going
to search existing homes, you next can narrow down your search
by considering exactly how and what type of home might be best
for you and your family. After working on homes for over
thirty years, I've helped many home buyers find their dream
vacation homes. I'll share some
home buying secrets that I've learned over the years that
might just help.
